Fall Into Love

People often ask me "When is the best time to get married at Terradyne Country Club?"  My answer, and everyone doesn't have to agree with me, is Fall. Why you ask?  It's because this place is absoulutely stunning in Autumn-I just adore it!  Warm layers, rich colors and crisp, but not cool, air.  It is a fantastic time of the year to get married.  If you ask me what months are our most popular for booking weddings? I can say that the last ywo years, August has been the #1 most booked month, followed by October as #2.

Get Inspiration from the Natural Colors outside

Ambers, ruby reds, yellows and burnt orange are some of my favorite colors of the fall season.  Take a look at this beautiful bride Kateri Hopper.  She and Richard got married here last October and she was inspired by the warm colors of the fall season. I just love the floral work by Char Titus of Char's Designs.  Brides, please get inspiration by the natural beauty that surounds us in the plains of Kansas, for example tree limbs, tall grasses, pine cones accompanied by romantic candlelight.  Decor doesn't have to be expensive "Get Creative"!

Since we live in Kansas you can never predict the weather.  It is a continous battle of heat exhaustion or extreme cold, so I think that late Summer and Fall is ideal for outside ceremonies because our Kansas weather tends to cool off and it's comfortable outside.  We must take full advantage of this weather before we have to dig out our winter coats and bundle up for the snow and holiday season.  The Hereford House at Terradyne Country Club still has some dates open for Fall weddings. Please call Morgan Bauer, the event specialist, at 316-733-7800 to see what dates she has available.pan

Make the most of the stunning backdrop that this season provides and capture magical moments with love among the nature outside at Terradyne Country Club.  These moments above were captured by the ever so talented Lois Elaine her website is I highly reccommend her!

Calling All Foodies!

I LOVE FOOD!!!  I mean who doesn’t. When planning a wedding you would think that food would be one of the most important elements.  My preference for a wedding would be a plated dinner over a buffet. There is ABSOULTLEY nothing wrong about choosing a buffet (especially the ones we offer at the Hereford House.) I just prefer being seated and served, and we have a really wonderful team of waitstaff for our events. I thought it would be fun and helpful for those of you currently planning your wedding to talk about food today.

Food should be Fun and Not stuffy!!!

I know some people might think differently and that is okay because we are all allowed to have our own opinions.  Some of my favorite times that I have with my husband are going out to a nice restaurant, playing dress up in my newest dress, and putting on a stunning pair of high heels.  We start off the night with a glass of wine, and then we decide what we are going to have course by course.  Think of this with your first impression of a wedding.

The Appetizer Course or Finger Foods!

I know it’s your wedding and you will want some of your favorite foods there but also think about the guests that are going to attend.  What is fun bright and colorful? What is easy to eat and doesn’t make a mess?

  • A Dip. Dips are always fun and they don’t change with the seasons. Some of Hereford House’s signature dips are the Crabmeat Dip and the Santa Fe Cheesecake (no it is not a dessert). The Crabmeat Dip is this rich creamy crab and herb spread served with assorted crackers. The Santa Fe Cheesecake is a savory blend of almond-crusted goat cheese layered with a sun-dried tomato pesto and served with seasonal fruit and garlic toast.
  • Skewers. Any Skewer is also a great idea and if you have a wedding reception full of children these are fun ways to keep them entertained for a little while.  The Hereford House can do a meat and cheese skewer, a fruit kabob or a caprese skewer.
  • Passed Appetizers. The Sensational trend going around these days is during your cocktail and appetizer reception is having a server go around with passed appetizers.  I love this idea because I think that not only it gets our staff more involved in the process it shows that we like to pay attention to the finer details.

My favorite passed appetizers here at the Hereford House are the Seafood Stuffed Mushrooms. Large mushroom caps stuffed with crab and shrimp cream cheese filling. We also have Chicken Salad on Crustini; Tender chicken breast blended with mayonnaise chopped apple, celery and onion served on toasted points, another one of my favorites, delicious and easy to eat!!

So it's just a few days before the big day.. the day where you have to show your undying love for that special someone in your life.  You race to the store looking for that special card only to find that everything is picked over and the only left is for grandma.  You know this isn't going to go well!  Let the Hereford House take care of this for you!!  We can have a bottle of Dom Perignon waiting for you at your table with a limited edition Riedel Bliss decanter.  The great thing about this Riedel decanter is that there are only 10 made!  You not only get to enjoy this fabulous champagne but you can take it home with you to enjoy for many more Valentine's Day to come!  So if you are looking for that one of a kind gift, you will definitely find it at the Hereford House!  Give us a call so we can take all the stress away and make you look like a STUD!!!

The Open Bar Question

The most mind-boggling thing that makes most families cringe is when we get to the bar service for the wedding.  Most families think that there are only two scenarios.  Scenario #1: if it is an open bar will my guests get out of control and I end up with a $10,000 bill at the end of the night? Or scenario #2 I don’t want to appear cheap and not offer anything. The Hereford House makes it really simple we have 3 options to choose from.

  • Option #1: We have a limited bar.  With this option the host can choose what they would like to offer their guests who have traveled to see this special day. The most popular option I've seen at weddings I coordinated in the last year are; 'beer and wine only' and a 'cash bar' for mixed drinks.
  • Option #2: I have seen the host set a limit.  Here they can set a certain dollar amount; the onsite manager will periodically be checking in with the lead bartender that night and see where they are at.  If the set amount is almost ready to be maxed out and you are only two hours into the event, more than likely the onsite manager will pull the host over to the side and see if they would like to increase the amount or move into cash bar.
  • Option #3: The host can pre-purchase kegs or wine through the Hereford House.  If we don’t open it or tap the keg then you won’t be charged.  We will just have those available if you choose to open up more for the guests.

Create a Signature Drink

There has been a growing trend at weddings to have a signature drink.  I have seen more weddings this past season do a signature drink with a twist… and then name the drink something cute.  Usually the drink is a mixture of what the bride and groom both like.  What a fun and unique way to serve delicious drinks for adults to enjoy.  I recommend you serving this during the cocktail and appetizer part of your receptions before everyone goes to dinner service.  At one of the several meetings that we have we can sit down with the bartender and get suggestions on some fun mixtures that we can serve and create together.

Finding the Perfect Vendors

When it comes to finding a florist, wedding planner, decorator, linen specialist, music, cake, if you are like me you want to find the very best of the best with GREAT prices.  When planning my wedding my parents gave me a budget.  I had a certain amount of money that I had to disperse wisely and choose what was most important to me and the least important to me.  For me the most important was the food and the venue.  Food is what brings people together it is story telling all in one.  Most receptions you do remember the food, a couple of years out people won’t remember the colors or the decorations.  Another thing that I am big on is the venue most people remember the venue.  Ask your event specialist; in this case it would it me, who they prefer as a vendor.  More than likely the event specialist will have a list of who they recommend to make your wedding dreams come true!!

The Hereford House at Terradyne Country club is this elaborate castle like building.  There is no other place in Wichita Kansas that even comes close to the looks of this building.  We are one of the largest banquet spaces in all of Wichita.  We seat up to 300 peoplel. If you are looking for a place to have the ceremony our beautiful patio overlooks the Scottish link golf course patterned after the famous golf course in Edinburgh, Scotland.  Here is a video link below. I thoroughly enjoyed working with the Ashpole and McGee family.  After this wedding; I truly believed what we did here at the Hereford House was remarkable.  I can’t do this on my own I have a team that is truly unbelievable and that is why we are truly without a doubt one of the best if not the BEST venues in all of Wichita.

Through it all, remember to have fun. You should enjoy all the excitement leading up to your perfect day with that perfect somebody

Be Flexible

Most Saturdays are already full for the summer months, but venues often have a tougher time booking those Friday and Sunday dates.  Many couples are opting for a late Friday ceremony and celebration or a Sunday afternoon event and reception. (Since they're not prime days, you may even be able to get a break on the room rental or catering minimum.)  Don't worry; those guests who are important to you will still come to your wedding, just as long as you tailor your plans to the day.  Friday couples may want to consider serving hors devours before the ceremony to quell the hunger guests may feel during the ceremony.  Sunday brides and grooms might think about when thier guests attend church and other religious activities, then schedule around that.

Pinterest Fun!

I know most of you girls already have a vision of what you are trying to accomplish whether it be a theme, color scheme, food or decorations. Try and take things step by step, simplify.  Remember wedding plan is a process and does not have to be in one week.  Pinterest boards can get overwhelming especially if you have more than 20 or more boards and believe me, I have seen a bride that had 40 different Pinterest boards.  If you are planning your wedding a year in advance do your research pin ideas that you like but when it come to 3-4 motnhs prior to your wedding try and stay off of Pinterest, it can confuse you if anything new and exciting pops up in the wedding world and you want to redo all of your work that you have done.

Save the date or maybe the month

Let everyone you hope that is going to attend the ceremony and reception know a date is coming.  Be creative in the way you announce it.  Even if you only give them a date-or even a month-of when you plan to do it, they'll now start to clear their schedules to attend and help you in the weeks leading up to it.  Out-of-town guests can even start making travel plans.
